Why does the slingplayer software look so bad on the X61t?

X60/X61 series specific matters only.

Why does the slingplayer software look so bad on the X61t?

#1 Post by nikemen » Thu Jan 17, 2008 4:55 pm

Does anyone use a slingbox, and slingplayer software with the X61 tablets? I have been using the SP software for years now, and on my trusty T41, no P, the quality is quite good. Images are sharp, no jagged edges (of course it is much better on a LAN) and text is VERY sharp indeed. Problem is, now that I have moved up to a tablet, I have the X61t, both MT and SXGA+ models, the image quality is poor. Very jagged edges, text looks very jagged, what is the problem with it? It really is a step down.

I know that there is a sacrifice in screen quality going with the tablet, layer, touchscreen, etc. But, I figured that with my OLD T41, which must have had some janky video card at best, IF at all, I would do equal or better with the intel graphics card in the X61.

Are there some extra settings that people can recommend?

I have a similar feedback for watching videos on the media player. Same sort of results. Is this just the WAY it is on this little machine?

I wasn't going to reply because I don't have a slingbox, but I must say DVDs look quite good to me, and mp4s also look as expected.
I have an X60 Tablet SXGA+.

I have noticed the backlight is much darker than my X32.

I have the SlingPlayer on my MT and it looks fine. I don't have any special settings.

Man, I just cannot figure out why the SP on this tablet looks SOO FFing crappy! It is so pixelated, even with a nice stream. All I can see are the boxes in peoples faces, Everything looks like crap. Why is this the case? How can I figure out how to get it better, or is this just a problem with the tablet screen?

Your issue seems confined to SlingPlayer - perhaps check their web site for support info.

Are you keeping your video drivers up to date? What about audio/video codecs (assuming SlingPlayer doesn't supply its own)?

I had the same problem, finally solved it by changing windows display setting to aero. try it out and lemme know if that helps or not. it sounds like an issue specific to x61...

i assume ur running vista, 32bit or 64 bit? did u make sure to check and select VMR option under Slingplayer options?

also, u might want to run dxdiag.exe from RUN dialog, and check see if there are any errors with directx.

someone else said killing the qttask.exe process, part of quicktime did the trick for them. i tried that but that did not help but u might give it a shot.
