Adding second fan to X61

Hi,

I bought a X61 without WWAN card and wonder (1) if I am able to add a second fan i.e. if there is a spare mini PCI slot and (2) if yes, what is the FRU part number so I can get the part.

Obviously I don't like the right palm rest getting warmer than the other side. OK it is subjective but I am sensitive to heat.

Thank you for your help in advance. Looking forward to your comments.

When did you purchase your x61? I was actually surprised that when I opened up my system it had the fan installed. But yes, if you didn't order the WWAN you do have another slot open.

My X61 also comes with the second fan and I don't have WWAN card.

Second fan?

Did you (or anyone else) figure out what the FRU number is?

Thanks,
Mitchell

Yeah, it would be great if we could use that fan in the X60's :D

There is neither space nor a connector for the 2nd fan on an X60/s. (Even most X61/s units do not have the connector for the 2nd fan.) The fingerprint reader was moved to the right on the X61/s to make room for the fan, and air vents were added at right side of the palm rest. along with foam "dams" to channel the airflow in from the right, over the mPCI Express slots, and out toward the back left CPU fan exhaust.
