Recovery CD's Question

#1 Post by spasell » Tue Jan 29, 2008 8:21 pm

I'm thinking about completely wiping my system clean due to the fact I am having several problems. One of which is that for some reason, when I push the Blue Thinkvantage buton, nothing happens any longer (not during start up but when I want to access the programs). I also cannot right click the desktop and change my screensaver or resolution. It just will not do this. I'm also getting a few error messages upon start up that are repeatable.

Now, creating recovery CD's is probably NOT a good idea since doing so would only keep the issues I have onto the new CD's correct?

I'm thinking about just moving all my important files to a backup drive and then wiping my system or doing the system restore or factory defaults. Does any of this make sense or maybe this can all be avoided by doing something I have not thought of.

Of course, I'm taking pain meds due to my terrible back problem I've had for a few weeks, so I could also be losing my mind as well. :)

Thanks

No, the recovery cd's are made from the recovery partition and have nothing to do with your current windows installation.
If you can make them do so and try to restore from them.
If you are getting fan error messages it is probably a hardware failure and recovering will not help that but it should cure the other ills. Who knows it might clear up a false fan error too.
