Screen not right

#1 Post by spasell » Sat Feb 02, 2008 2:57 pm

I'm confused about something.

For some reason, when I got to Control Panel, Display, and click on this, for whatever reason, the only option that pulls up is THEME. All the other options that were there, such as screen saver and setting times for screen saver, etc, have completely vanished.

I'm not sure what has caused this, but my whole system seems to have lost smaller capabilities that do not effect the actual performance of my machine. These include not being able to hit the blue ThnkVantage button and it pull up all the options...volume controls do turn the volume up or down or mute, but does not display the levels on my screen....when I use any of the Fn options, like Fn F3 to change my power settings, NOTHING happens (I have to double click the battery icon to make that happen).....Fn F7 turns my monitor completely off rather than allowing me to change presentation settings....little things like this no longer function properly...

Can anyone suggest to me what might be causing all of this? I'm at a loss, and would like to retain functionality of all these items and restore my system to it's BEST operation without having to completely wipe the machine and start over.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this!

Seems like you were trying to tweak Windows (?).

I know this is not something you would like to hear but I suggest you rebuild your partition.

Thank you. The only thing is, being I am not up to speed on some of this stuff, rebuilding this means what? If you can explain the implications of this and how I would go about doing something like this I would appreciate the help. Thank you much!

For your original problems, sorry I can't offer any advice, I was merely suggesting you to start things over by installing a fresh build of Windows from Rescue and Recovery and since I'm unaware about your version of Windows (XP or Vista) so that gives me even lesser options to help you out.

Based on my assumption I think you have Windows Vista, if so then perhaps following tips will assist you in speeding up Windows on your thinkpad without letting you to disable any important services or background tasks:

Tweaking T60 Vista.
