X61S LCD replacemnet

#1 Post by weggy999 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 3:16 pm

Hi all,

I got a crack on my X61S LCD. :(
Do you know how much it will cost get placement from Lenovo?
If that costs me too much, then I am thinking of change the LCD by myself. What is compatible LCD for X61S ultra light version?

Thanks in advance.

No -- this is a non-UL screen, which is not compatible with weggy999's existing LCD cable. There is only one UltraLight screen: FRU #13N7092.

You'd have to ask them, but I'd guess in the $500 range or higher.

That is almost half price of my laptop... :x

My laptop type is 7668 CTO with ultra light.

It belongs to 13N7092, 13N7094, 13N7096, and 42T0343.
what is the best if the prices are the same?

Thanks again

Please pay attention to what I told you earlier in this thread: you do NOT have the latitude to choose any one of the above FRU #s, because only FRU #13N7092 will fit your machine's LCD enclosure and LCD cable.

Not if the crack was caused by the owner. To the OP, you're not goiing to do a lot better than $325 for a new LCD for that machine. I see these on EBay all the time because the repair is so expensive people just dump them with a cracked LCD.

then no choice, need to replace it yourself or pay Lenovo for replacement since the crack is caused by user.

weggy999, I can confirm that what EOMtp wrote is correct. Because your X61s has an Ultralight display, only the TMD screen (i.e. the 13N7092) is thin enough for your enclosure. The non-Ultralight panels are too thick. Do not buy any of the other three. You should thank EOMtp for saving you from wasting $325.

7668-CTO includes both Ultralight and non-Ultralight models. That's why you see all four kinds of panels listed when you look up "7668-CTO".
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)

Thank you all for responses. :D
It is my third X series laptop (X31, X41 and X61s).
And I encountered this kind of LCD problem for the first time.
I always carry the laptop in Waterfield case with care. Thin panel might be the reason for this. Be careful guys!!!

How did the 'crack' occur? Did you drop the machine, or did it appear on it's own? Where exactly is it cracked?

I tried to replace my LCD today. I found that my LCD is 42t0343, not 13N7092.
does this mean that I have non ultra light LCD or another version of ultra light lcd? I already got 13N7092.
and the LCD cable location is different...

Really? I ordered my labtop from LENOVO directly and double checked they have my laptop with Ultra-LCD. I have email proof for that. Do you have any suggestion?

About the crack. I don't know why it got cracked. I suspect when I closed the laptop that happened.

If it's broken, and you can't prove that you did not do it, then your only option is to replace it. After that, I'd contact Lenovo and straighten out your order. They are not going to give you an ultralight LCD to replace a broken non- Ultra.... What is your machine type/model from the bottom of the machine?

At the moment I ordered the laptop. there was no option on web site for 1.8ghz CPU with Ultra-Light LCD. So I called to a lenovo sales department, ordered the X61S with Ultra-light LCD and 1.8Ghz CPU. And I asked several times that is coming with ultra light one. I have emails about it. the model name is 7668CT

This is what he said "I am sorry it does not clarify it on the info below but it is coming with the ultra light LCD and 1.8ghz
"

Hi weggy999,

Have you checked the FRU# of the LCD shipped with your notebook by checking the warranty->parts shipped at Lenovo's web site? You can check by your serial#. I placed my sample here:

If they didn't send you the correct screen, they should replace the screen for free or replace the entire unit (most likely just the screen will do)

If they sent you the correct screen that you requested and paid for, try to call Lenovo and buy some "Accident Insurance Warranty" from them. It'll cost less than the LCD, and if you wait a few weeks and call back after, they should replace the screen under the "Accidental" warranty.

GL, and let us know how it pans out!
