I feel its vista thats slowing down the x61s I have used or could be the 1 gig ram...gunston wrote:'s' model would absolutely surpass X41.ThinkPad wrote:I feel the 's' model is rather slow at 1.8ghz, even compared to my X41. But battery life is definitely adequate.

Vista works just fine on my x60s...gunston wrote:X60s, not ready for Vista compare to X61s.

Thinkpad,
It could be the insufficient ram to support Vista, min requirement stated that it needs 2Gb ram to run smoothly.
efrant,
Well, X60s is running fine with Vista to certain extend. It still slower than the X61s which equipped with Santa Rosa platform (20% more heat generated).

1. T43 2668-B97 14" SXGA+ 1.5G RAM 9cells
2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful
2. X60s 1703-CA3 powerful
That makes sense. My sister uses an X61s with vista, and I think it should be a requirement to have 2 gigs from the factory when ordering vista.gunston wrote:Thinkpad,

The X61 tablet I had until last month had only 1GB of RAM and it ran Vista very slowly. It felt as slow as running XP on an X20 with 128MB RAM.

to have your x60s really work at max speed , at all times, make sure you deactivate the cpu- power-saving thing. ('global power options' or similar in power manager).
If its set to on (which it is by default), also the 'full speed' setting slows down at times, also under very high cpu load.

X60s / T40p / A20m (retired)
high performance is what you mean in the Vista power options menu but that does suck the battery life down more. If you want a a powerful system then they probably wouldn't get the S version or a lower speed CPU. The low voltage CPUs are designed to save power over speed.
Speed isn't much of a factor when you are typing word docs or browsing emails (opening the applications tho would be faster with more speed). You get the idea ... I have a Core Duo 2Ghz and sometimes i wonder if the 1.6 would save me more heat and then battery life
Even tho i got 3hrs 43mins on this system before with a 6 Cell.
