Problem: X61 with XP 64-bit ....

#1 Post by ludu35 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 2:32 am

Hello all X61 owners
I am trying to install XP 64-bit on my X61, but the OS cd couldn't detect the drive in my X61, seem to me that the OS can't see the hard drive controller ... Please HELP

But when I install Vista Ultimate 64-bit, the installation went through without a hitch

Anyone have this problem on XP 64-bit, please advice.
Thanks LD

Change the SATA mode in the BIOS to "Compatibility".

Here is what I did ....

- I used Dell OEM XP 64bit, it worked fine without changing SATA model to COMPATIBILITY
- I used retail XP 64bit, I have to change the SATA to Compatibility as some of you advised.

- BTW, is there any compatibility hardware/software issues with XP 64bit on X61 that i need to look out during installation?

P.S. I dont really like Vista 64, seem to me it is slower than XP ...

Thank you all for your help
