inputs needed on x61s cpu fan noise, heat and frequency

#1 Post by red bioroid » Wed Feb 13, 2008 1:04 pm

I'm still looking at getting the x61s (getting the 1.8) but one last thing I'm concern about is the cpu fan noise and heat dissipation. How often does it come on and how much noise and heat it makes, at no load and at about full MS office applicaiton and IE load, when plug into the AC?.

If there a software control function for the cpu fan?
I'm most concern about noise.

(my posting implies from the fact that I will be disabling unneeded junk processes in task manager that seems to habitualyl put a continuous\unpredictable big load on the cpu. That will make the cpu run under normal operating condition;Windows Vista and a antivirus program,.)
Feb 2008=Thinkpad X61s; 2x faster than X40 but not as asthetic.
Dec 2005=Thinkpad X40; perfect, but bigger than 240x.
Jan 2005=Thinkpad 240x; used; fast but dead pixels doomed it.
2003=Thinkpad 240; used,
1998=new Toshiba Tecra 740CDT. Pricey, heavy & last 5 year.

you really should just do a search on this topic as there is lots of information on it...

but to answer your question in brief, I think the general consensus is that the fan noise and heat on the x61s is minimal. When on battery power my fan rarely comes on. When on AC the fan does come on more often but is very quiet. I have a hard time believing anyone would accuse the X61s as being "loud".
