X61S XP Disk Error Checking Fails

#1 Post by Sleep Machine » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:56 pm

I have tried to use the Windows XP "Error Checking" function for my C Drive. I get the following message after restart:

"Checking file system on C:
Type of file system is NTFS
Cannot open for direct access
Windows has finished checking the disk."

and it proceeds to open Windows without the disk error check.

I restored to original factory status and still got same message.
I Googled this and tried various supposed solutions, including using command prompt to no avail. I have no other problems (that I am aware of) and worked through all of the drive fitness tests I can think of - PC-Doctor 5, etc.

Any suggestions?

08-02-18 Problem still persists. Now it happens everytime I start up the machine, even though I have not previously set up an error checking.

Open command prompt in Windows and type in "chkdsk" on the shell.

Also see if you can gather some related info. from the following thread:

T61p gets stuck in disc check.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
