Where to buy long power cord?
Where to buy long power cord?
I am happy with my X61 except that its power cord is too short for me. Does anybody know where you can buy a spare power cord for X61that would be longer by a foot or two than the origional one?

How long do you need it? Most replacement cords are the same 6 footers that you normally get with the AC adapters. The usual places to try would be Radio Shack, Fry's, Orchard Supply, Home Depot and maybe even the Office Depot and Office Max stores. Is this the regular two pin "figure 8" style cord?
edit: Some of the surplus stores in the area like Halted in Santa Clara and Weird Stuff in Sunnyvale and Surplus Computers in Santa Clara may have some of those cords.

The local stores will probably not have a genuine IBM AC adapter. From looking at the tabook, it appears that the X61 uses the 65W adapter (20V 3.25A). A quick check on eBay says that they are available for about $30 (shipped; using Buy-it-Now), less if you are patient. You can also go lenovo.com and check the prices there.

Do You Have Any Soldering Skills?
Why not just make it yourself? My (T42) power cord is about 20 feet long, so I can run it across the floor in a coffee shop to reach one of the outlets. I just chopped off the last few inches at the plug and soldered the plug end and the desired length of wire from a cable in the junk box. This happens to be a two-conductor cord. I had slipped pieces of small heat shrink over the individual conductors prior to soldering, and a piece of bigger heatshrink over one side of the cord. When the soldering was done, I positioned the small heatshrink pieces over the two soldered joints and shrunk 'em, and then did the same for the bigger piece to protect the entirety of the joint.
Been working fine for several years.

Or you could just carry a 20' extension cord
. That way you could also plug in your iPod or phone charger too!
