LCD problem ... fixable or a lost cause?

#1 Post by rkuo » Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:30 am

OK, so I ran from my apartment to my car with my X60 in my backpack and apparently did something bad to the screen. Here's what happening.

The display is barely visible as if just the backlight is out. The status lights in the display are behaving oddly ... the wireless status lights light up, but the power indicators on the right of the status light bar are not lit. This almost makes me think something is wrong with the inverter since the status bar is part of the inverter. The computer itself runs fine, and I'm using it now while docked...it's just that the display itself is not working when I'm using the laptop standalone.

So what's going on here? Is the inverter blown? Is the backlight shot or a connection loose? Inquiring minds want to know if this is easily replaceable or if I need to get a new laptop. =(

Does the LCD panel itself show any sign of damage? (Have you opened up the top casing/bezel and looked at the components?)

Another possibility is that part of the flex-cable between the base and the inverter/LCD panel could have been damaged somehow. Does it show any crease or tear marks?
