Intel Turbo Memory

#1 Post by edinburghphoto » Sun Feb 24, 2008 4:13 am

Hi

I'm using a TP X61/7K200(100GB)/3 GB/2.0Ghz/Vista Business and wondering if I should get the Intel Turbo Memory module.

I would really appreciate some advice.
Is it compatible with my machine? How do I fit it? and does it really improve performance?

Also, I've seen a few non-Lenovo modules on Ebay or would I be better off with the proper Lenovo memory?

Thanks in advance.

I would advise on staying away from Turbo memory, problems aside you won't get any drastic improvements.

Here is an article from AnandTech: Understanding Turbo Memory: It isn't as clear as you'd think.

The turbo memory seems compatible with your machine but you would need to check whether your thinkpad has second Mini PCI slot, if there isn't any then can't install it.

With more ram, its been suggested that performance enhancements are more significant than the turbo memory (not to mention the associated problems reported with TM)

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like my X61 with 3GB RAM is better off without turbo memory. I'm definitely giving it a miss!
