Does anyone have the part number for the palmrest fan that comes with the X61s with WWAN?

Is it worth it? What's the cost?

between 50 and 65 dollars, due to obscurity im sure.
the main fan can be had for as low as 20ish

Does anyone know what parts are required to upgrade an x61s that originally did not have wwan (and does not have wwan slot and therefore no extra fan) to use a palmrest with an extra fan.
The purpose of course is to reduce the right palm rest heat and not to install wwan.

just this part.
I assume there's a small power port left empty on the motherboard for the fan.
Not sure if it's worth 65 dollars.

I have just tried installing the second fan onto X61.
No luck.
There was no three-pin adapter for the fan on the system board.

Can you not "borrow" power from another existing power adapter on the motherboard? Also, I am assuming that your X61s did not have the second pci-e socket on its motherboard. Is that correct?

No you can't. There was no spare adapter whatsoever.
My X61 DOES have a spare mini PCI slot though, however, it is no use when it comes to installing a second fan.

The unoccupied mini PCI-E slot could provide your fan with power. The mini PCI-E interface supplies both 1.5V DC as well as 3.3V DC
(see
http://www.interfacebus.com/Mini_PCI_Express_Bus.html).

jketzetera,
Thanks for the info. However, I don't think I can connect to that since the actual connector/plug that the fan comes with is a three-pin plastic plug rather than 52 pin. Or, am I wrong?

You could fashion your own connector and connect only the power pins.

Would you be kind enough to clarify what you meant by "fashion" my own connector? Thanks.

Well, I imagine you could purchase a Mini-PCI-E connector from some online store and do some soldering after looking up the pin chart.
I'm not sure whether this the connector is actually available.

Basically, if you have to ask that question, its not something you should be thinking of doing, as it is definitely a
hardware hacking task.
