Can someone explain to me WHERE these updates are installed to once you select them to be installed? It does not allow you to install them to areas that you choose, and I have spent more time trying to find WHERE they've be placed that I've gotten fed up trying to find them. It does not even tell you what the filename is let alone where it's going. I print up the readme instructions and it is not close to what or where it says to go.
Also, how critical is it to install just recommended updates? Have people installed these and noticed issues after doing so? I just don't know if it's worth it to do so if my machine functions properly. I use XP professional for my x61T.
Any thoughts on this are appreciated greatly! Thank you.
Thnikvantage System Update
I believe most of them will goto sub-directories of \Program Files\, whereas the path is configurable via the %ProgramFiles% environment variable.
Some of the files will goto \Windows\, for example some of the DLL will reside in \Windows\System32. This path is configurable via the %systemroot% variable.
Please note that, while these paths can be changed on the fly, I don't think it would be a good idea to do so. That's another topic through.
With regard to the "recommended" updates, usually they're updated to fix some bugs, and/or add support for new systems/models. Occasionally new features are introduced as well.
I do usually install them all. But if you're worried about them breaking something, and that you won't have time and/or the competency to fix it in case it happens. Then I would suggest you not to do so.

Thanks for the information. One other question would be when I do install the updates, will they automatically take into the system without me having to find these files and open them? I'm not sure that I totally understand why it is that I'd be required to actually run a program that I wanted loaded in the 1st place? Thanks.loyukfai wrote:I believe most of them will goto sub-directories of \Program Files\, whereas the path is configurable via the %ProgramFiles% environment variable.
