X61 tablet inking-- Jumping Cursor

Hello, new Lenovo user here. Great forum! I have recently started using an X61 multi-touch tablet, after having a few Tablets over the years, HP TC1000, TC1100, and recently an HP 2710p and this X61t. I must say I am enjoying the speed of the X61t...
So, to the problem: I find that when I rotate the screen and put it down into "slate" mode, I get inconsistent inking capability. The cursor jumps away and then returns, and the ink, of course, gets interrupted.
I found that the the back of the screen is coming in contact with the nub of the track point eraser head when I write. The track point is being nudged periodically, which causes the cursor to jump, then return to the pen tip position.
I pulled the track point nub off, and the problem went away. Put it back, pushing it down as far as I could, but the contact still happens.
Searching the forum I find no other reports of this - Do I have a defective extra large eraser nub??? An extra heavy hand?
Or,maybe there is a way to disable the trackpoint automatically when in slate mode- is this possible?
Any insight is appreciated.
