Does anyone have experience with non-multivew/multitouch XGA screen on X61T or earlier X tablets? I would be particularly grateful to now how it compares to multivew/multitouch XGA.

Units with non-multivew/multitouch XGA screen do not seem to be available at lenovo.com, but such screen is more or less default option for OSU educational purchases. According to tabook all X61t screens supposed to be wide view angle FFS and that is the primary reason for me to go for the tablet. Non-multiview XGA is brighter than multiview (185 nits vs. 150) but the former is not optimized for outdoor viewing. I do not plan to work in direct sun light but I wish to get good antiglare/antireflective coating. Even the best quality matrix can be ruined by bad coating and I've seen many awful grainy and fussy coating on laptop LCDs recently. I recently saw X61t superview sxga+ in person and the coating was awesome! I haven't ever seen a better coating. However, SXGA+ is too small for me and given that I hate cleartype, I cannot achieve acceptable pen scaling by increasing dpi. So I am choosing between non-multiview and multiview XGA. The former is a more logical choice for me (brighter and cheaper) but it seems to be a dark horse with respect to coating. So any comments are highly appreciated.

I've an experience with X60 tablet with non-multivew/multitouch XGA screen. It had one of the best display (non TN, manufactured by Boe-Hydis i.e. flexview) I've ever seen in thinkpads so far w.r.t brightness, contrast and sharpness wise, the coating was antiglare/antireflective also and I would rate it as very good.

If you want I can get you some actual pictures of such machine within few days.

Thanks a lot for comment, ryengineer. I was hoping non-multiview panel looks no worse than the multiview one. In fact, I had placed order for X61t with non-multiview XGA before posting a question about it. I was hoping that community would warn me if I was doing the wrong choice, so I could cancel the order if necessary.

Thanks for the offer! I got shipping notification today, so I expect my system to arrive reasonably soon. Perhaps I can survive without pictures until then. On the other hand, community will certainly benefit from photos of non-multiview XGA panel, so earlier or later somebody should post the pictures. I wonder if anyone tried to use scanner rather than camera to get picture of tablet screen. Transmissive and reflective mode scans might be interesting complements to photos.

How would you compare that screen to the sxga+ X61 Tablet w/ superview (in terms of brightness, contrast, and overall display quality). I have had experience with the sxga+ version. The dpi was just too high for me.

The only two complaints I have with SXGA+ display are:

1. Sparkle Effect.
2. If you've a very weak eyesight like me you should choose XGA (non TN i.e. WVA display) over SXGA+ otherwise in a form factor of 12.1 LCD you would be squinting while traveling with your tablet, if not all but most of the times. Given an option of buying again, I would choose lower DPI XGA screen as I think this display fits my needs more than SXGA+.

Asides from the above comments, the overall brightness, contrast, and display quality of SXGA+ screen is very good.

I agree with you 100%. I owned an X61t sxga+ but ended up selling it. The sxga+ was just too high for me. Initially it seemed great, but if I did any extended work on it, I found my self hunching over it to get closer. Eventually, I would get a headache and some eyestrain. Maybe I'm getting old. In general, all the displays that I have been comfortable were between 96 and 105 dpi.

I also noticed the sparkling effect of the sxga+ screen. So you don't notice the sparkle effect at all with the XGA screen?

In the pictures there is a thinkpad T60 with SXGA+ IPS screen and X60 tablet with XGA screen (non TN, WVA display manufactured by Boe-Hydis), both are running on AC adapters except the tablet is running on the battery only in the last couple of pictures where it's standing.

P.S. Let me know if I uploaded duplicate pictures...

There was no sparkle effect on the display in question.

Now, if only Lenovo offered the non MV/MT XGA as a CTO. Apparently Lenovo has stopped selling pre-configured models directly.

I hate this sparkling effect. I guess my Dell 9300 had it and eventually as everyone said i got used to it.

Would this be the case here too?
