Though you have probably figured this out by now, it is configured using the power control panel. Under XP and before, there is a tab for it. Under Vista, start help and type hibernate. You'll find info there.

thank you for your answer

Got me interested. I went to my XP machine (no-brand desktop) and opened up the Power control panel. There is very definitely a hibernate tab. When the disk is very full, it is still there, only disabled. (You need to enable hibernate before you fill your disk.)

I suggest you Google hibernate problems. Sorry.

Have you installed the power management features from the Lenovo site? They will allow hibernate to be enabled.

I had the same problem after adding a GB of memory to my XP SP2 machine. Turned out that it was a somewhat rare but known issue at Microsoft, and they had a hotfix for it. I remember having to call them and ask for a link to the hotfix.

Worked right away and all has been fine, since.

A quick google reveals they may have published the patch. Try this or one of a couple other similar Microsoft support docs:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330909

i found the answer
