I'm at a Microsoft conference where Kingston is exhibiting and they told me the 4 GB RAM modules will be available the end of Q2 2008, e.g. around June timeframe, price unknown.

I still can't think of a reason to have 8GB of RAM in an X61...

Same reason I'd have it in a T61: software development and also running a large database on a 7200 RPM 200 GB Hard Drive.
I no longer use a 'T' but use the 'X' which I carry with me everywhere and use it with a 24" Dell LCD 1920x1200 at home and at work.

E248WFP 24-inch Widescreen Black Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Is this the model Dell you have? I noticed several poor reviews. How well does yours work? My X60s can output 1920x1080...Dell rates this monitor at Max Resolution: 1920 x 1200 / 60 Hz
Any problems with that difference?
Thanks, Bill

You unit should run at least 1920x1200 because I had an X60s when I purchased the monitors September 2006.

I think for the vast majority of users 2GB is the max amount of RAM that will make a noticeable difference.
I just installed 4GB and I'm not sure if I notice a difference vs. 2GB. I'm running Vista X64 so all 4GB are showing up.
8GB would be a useless waste of money for someone like me

A 1 GB RAM Module costs almost nothing so might as well populate to 3GB for Vista 32.

Yes. The X61, X61s, T61, T61p, and anything else that uses the Santa Rosa Platform (965) will work with 8 GB.

Are u sure?
I want to install 8GB of Ram on my X61s but Lenovo told me "impossible".
I know the chipset can handle it, im not sure the bios can...
Is there anyone here with 8GB of memory installed on a X61s?
If so, please give some details, how it works?
Thanks in advance...

As you can read in this thread, the first 4 GB sticks (which would are necessary to achieve 8 GB of RAM, considering laptops have two slots) are not going to be available until the middle of the year. No one has 8 GB installed in a X61s right now.
