X61T: rubber foot in the indentation below Lenovo sticker??

#1 Post by fox_napier » Wed Mar 05, 2008 7:41 pm

Folks,

There is an indentation just below the Lenovo sticker on the underside of the X61 Tablet. Is there supposed to be a rubber foot there? If so, then what is the part number?

Thanks!

On my X61T, there is an indentation at the bottom of the Lenovo sticker. If this is what you mean, there is something rubbery in the rectangle. It is not a foot and it doesn't appear to stick up above the sticker.

There is another indentation somewhat below and to the left. This is for the Ultrabase.

Hope that helps. If not, post a picture.

There's a rubber piece, yes. It fell off my X61s so I superglued it back on. It seems to be a sad design flaw, because a friend had to do the same thing. Still, better than designing the thermals all wrong!

IMHO, it looks like the foot is there only to protect the Lenovo tag from wear. Being so small, it could serve no other purpose than being a sacrificial lamb.

If lost, a bit of silicon caulk would probably do, if you really care.

(As for the thermals - well, my X61t seems to have a problem with that, too. Especially when running continuously for 5+ hours and even more so when I am use remote desktop to run it and have the lid down. It simply crashes. I'm calling Lenovo tomorrow. Wish me luck.)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am not certain we are all talking about the same indentation, or even the same Thinkpad, a tablet version of the X61.

So here is a picture with a yellow arrow indicating the rectangular indentation:

Do you or other X61 Tablet owners have something in this rectangular indentation? Perhaps a rubber foot there to protect the hard drive from bumps?

If this is not a foot, why is it there? Why not have the Lenovo sticker be completely rectangular, without the indentation?

Thanks!

MOD EDIT: As per forum rules a picture warning is required but that cannot be added due to lengthy subject line therefore the picture has been converted to a link.

Yes, your picture shows what I identified in my replies. It isn't a foot, per se, but it does sport a flat low-profile bit of rubber. I am guessing, as I said previously, but it looks like it is there to protect the label from getting marred by the physical desktop.
