Standby/Hibernate disables Fingerprint Reader

I have done a search on these forums for this issue, and there have been a number of postings about it but no solution.
When I put my Vista X61 tablet into standby or hibernate, upon resume the Fingerprint Reader is disabled. Under the Fingerprint icon it says "Please connect the Fingerprint Reader", which indicates that it realizes there is a problem. Under my user icon it says "<username> Locked".
Swipes to the Fingerprint Reader are ignored.
Now, if I select 'Switch User' the display goes blank for several seconds and there is hard disk activity, then the screen comes back and things have changed. Under the Fingerprint icon it now says "Fingerprint logon: Please swipe your finger" and under my user icon it says "<username> logged on". BOTH messages have changed.
And swiping the Fingerprint Reader now successfully logs me on.
Anyone know a fix for this? Is this a known issue over at Lenovo?

Well, that fix only worked temporarily
So, I am getting these exact symptoms again, and it doesn't matter whether I have 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' checked or unchecked for the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor in the Device Manager or not.
So the problem must be something else. Any ideas what? Is this a known issue?

the problem seems intermittent. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.
Is no one else getting this?

The Windows Vista you've, is it lenovo's preload or retail version of Vista?
If it's retail version then make sure you've the following patch installed:
Registry patch to change IDLE IRP timing by Fingerprint reader driver for Windows Vista - ThinkPad.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
It is a retail install, but everything on
this page was installed manually. And I just double-checked to make sure that the registry entry you pointed out to me was as it should be, and it is. So this can't be the issue.
The problem is intermittent, but seems more prevalent when coming out of hibernation than suspend.

'm still having this problem, but it seems like I am the only one? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have followed all the advice on this page, and yet the problem remains - and it's intermittent. About 30-40% of the time i am guessing.

I think it's something to do with Vista, have you patched your Windows with SP1 yet?
Apparently google tells this problem also exists on Dells and Toshibas running Windows Vista.

On Linux, this can happen if one unloads the module for USB 1.1 (usb_uhci). Unloading this module and disabling USB 1.x can be advantageous because the controller always draws power. Perhaps Windows' or Lenovo's power management disables the controller once engaged and unless one connects a USB 1.x device, and there is an option for enabling the controller by default.
