X6 tablet Ultrabase - optical drive included?

work just bought an x61 tablet. very sexy. however we didn't organise an optical drive. after looking at the lenovo site, an ultrabase and an external USB dvd rom drive are the same price.

question: does the ultrabase come with an optical drive? or do you need to buy one for it?

It doesn't come with an optical drive in the Ultabay Slim slot, just a blank filler piece. So, you need to order an Ultrabay Slim optical drive separately.

Just an FYI, I know there have been lots of recent posts regarding substitute USB CD/DVD writers/etc. for those that have the X series and an ultrabase but no optical drive

Yep, that's the route I've gone (external usb based dvd burner) and it's worked great. Now that said, if I was wanting to hook up an external monitor, keyboard, etc frequently (or at all) to the X61, then I might have gone for the conenvience of the media slice.
