"Error 2100 - Hard drive initialization error"

#1 Post by buzio » Sat Mar 08, 2008 2:08 pm

Hi have a problem with my x61s.

Two days ago the computer started doing weird things under vista. I had to make a hard reboot. Since, vista never boot up. The hard drive is not even seen by the bios. And I have a "Error 2100 - Hard drive initialization error".

I went on google to find a solution and I found this :

http://www.gottabemobile.com/CommentVie ... 37342.aspx

But (there is a but) the solution I found only works for Hitachi/Fujistu/Toshiba, and my hard drive is a Seagate...
I haven't tried it though.

The problem seems common. I'm a bit disapointed, as I used the laptop for a week... I did no backup, and I'm afraid I've lost a whole week of work...

If any one has an idea ...

Have you tried the HD firmware update on your Seagate?

I use a 160GB Seagate in my X60s with Windows XP...no problems to report.

Let us know if the HD firmware update solves your problem. You probably did not loose your data. Also, let us know what IBM service says. I am assuming you are still under warranty.

I have no ultrabay drive...

I tested the cd on a hp laptop I have and it seems to work fine. I tried to update the seagate drive from the x61s by putting it in the hp laptop and running the cd including the firmware update, but it stayed stuck, unable to laod the firmware process...

I will contact lenovo, as the laptop is still under warranty, but I'm not very confident, as they use to just change your drive. And I need to keep my data...

I would so much like to find the update for a seagate drive...

I got lenovo support on the phone.
They only accept to change the hard drive, wich means losing all my data...
They say it's a mechanical problem, although they have firmware updates for other hard disk brands. They say they cannot get any firmware updates from seagate...

I don't understand how they can have updates from hitachi/fujitsu/toshiba and nothing for a seagate disk they shipped with the x61s !

HELP!

Looks like you either buy a USB external drive or boot from a USB thumb drive. I would be inclined to send the unit for repair as your drive may be defective.

Sorry. Bill

I just encountered the same message.

I just bougth a seagate momentus 7200.2 120gb harddrive, and replace it with the hd that came with my machine.

I've used the drive for 2 days, and I got:

BSOD:
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

(in short)
restart windows and see if it happens again, make sure you hard & software is correctly installed, drivers are up to date, try deactivating caching or shadowing

*** STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC0000056, 0xC0000056, 0x0000000, 0x0225C000

ERROR
2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (1)

Note that this has only happened for me one time - but I want to know if anyone else has replaced their original drive with a retail drive, and gotten this error?

I'm also suspecting that I haven't attached the drive firmly enough...[/img]

LasseFJ, you need to update your drive's firmware.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
