Figuring how I use the x61t on the go more than I used my older and bigger laptops, I want to know if anyone can recommend some good pc card/express card/sd cards for file storage. I currently use an old 2gb sd card in the sd slot for file backups, but I have been eyeing those lexar expresscard 8gb ssd's as well. Capacity is not a huge factor, and I figure most any new ssd is faster than my 50x sd card, but I do not want anything that sticks out of the x61.

Any recommendations?

you'll need the expresscard adapter, which is ONLY the usb bus, btw.

just buy a 16gb SD card for 70 bucks.

Yeah...im not liking that adaptor idea a whole lot, so I guess an 16gb sd card is the way to go.

Ideally, I would use both slots, one for my main file storage, the other for a backup, and my hdd just for the os. Reason being is Id like to keep my files sync'd, on flash as opposed to hdd for safety, and in the sd reader/pc card for easy swapping (and security when Im not around my machine).

But thanks for the info... any news though of our machines can run full speed of the latest 16gb sdhc cards?

Fastest SD reader's get about 20MB/s. Lenovo's is <10MB/s. If speed is an issue, get a good USB adapter. Also, fast 16GB cards are almost nonexistent. I've seen 4GB and 8GB ones that go up to 133x (20MB/s), but not 16GB.

Yeah, the current 16's are a good match for lenovo's built in slot. anything faster is a waste.

Im trying to stay away from solutions that require any sort of protruding part cause I want the machine to *mostly* run with the installed. I say mostly because I want to physically be able to pull out my data when Im away from my computer and/or switching machines. around.

While I like the idea of an expresscard (most laptops I use are T6x series with an expresscard slot), I didnt know the x6x required an adaptor... and im sure the adaptor plus flash card dont sit flush.

But Ill keep my eyes peeled for the sd cards....

The Delkin card you cite is quite old, and slow - it uses straight cardbus and has no provision for UDMA, so best case scenario you get 16MB/s, most likely a lot less. If you want a fast CF adapter, the new Delkin UDMA CF Cardbus adapter should be much faster.

And no, I don't believe cardbus devices are bootable.
