problem: My X61 (3 days old) is working smooth with win XP pro Sp2 and all available updates. All available thinkpad system updates also installed. BUT when I try to defragment my harddrive with Diskeeper 2008 (pro version, paid license) I get the following message: "ERROR. Diskeeper has detected that CHKDSK is scheduled to run on the volume: Preload (C:). This is due to either a user request, or because the operating system has found errors in the file system. CHKDSK will run automatically during the next system reboot. Until CHKDSK is run, Diskeeper cannot analyze/defragment this volume."
The file system is formatted with NTFS. I have yes set up Diskeeper to automatically perform CHKDSK on my disks. But when I restart the system nothing happens. Win XP only performs CHKDS on the USB connected HDD and on the Ultra Bay HDD, but not on the Preload C:\ disk!!! This frustrates me. Also when I try to use the command prompt from win xp desktop typing: "CHKDSK /F C:" nothing happens during reboot. Also if I try to type: [/b]"RUN----> CHKNTFS /C[/b] nothing particular happens, just that a DOS prompt window appears for about 0,5 seconds before it disappears again.......and when during reboot, of course win xp boots normally. Argh, is it a workaround to get Win XP to perform a CHKDSK or a CHKNTFS correctly? Am I doing anything wrong here?
IBM/Lenovo support is on the case, but they could not help at the moment either. they had to get a more experienced technician to look into my problem. So I emailed a scrrendump from the error message I get in Diskeeper 2008, when I try to perform defragmentation.
please can anyone help me here?[/img][/i]
