SD/SDHC Cards and the X61s

#1 Post by Oren » Thu Mar 20, 2008 10:04 pm

Hello everyone,
Small question,

I know that the SD card reader on the X60s can read SD cards, but not SDHC (High Capacity).

Is it the same on the X61s? or did the guys in Japan gave this issue some thought when designing the X61s?

There have been microsoft software updates that have made the SD card readers in the X60 read many, most, or all SDHC cards. All the SDHC cards I have (not a complete selection by any means) are easily read and written to in my X60's.

I don't have an X61, but I would bet they can handle SDHC cards also, assuming their software is up to date.

On XP, you need to get a hotfix from MS to enable SDHC, I have it and it works well, though the built-in reader is much slower than a USB adapter. I don't know about Vista.

Works by default in Windows Vista.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

You are right. They work perfectly fine. Same goes for x61 tablet.

I use a microsdhc in the x61 tablet with the hotfix. Works fine and works FAST! (I dunno about usb based, but slot based is pretty fast for me)

I have an X61 with a PNY 8GB SDHC Class 4 installed in the SD slot and use it as my back up, and ReadyBoost, and it works perfectly. As soon as PNY comes out with their 16GB Class 6 SDHC I'll use that as my back up device.
The only issue is I have a Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Contour and it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm currently exchanging email with Sandisk tech support. If I take the SDHC card out the computer the Contour works fine. Sandisk thinks there is a power problem! Anybody heard of the SD slot affecting the USB slots relating to power? I first had problems with the X61 not seeing the SD slot but there is a software fix for that and once I downloaded it from Lenovo the computer see the SD cards.
LMK if you've heard about the power problem SD slot and USB plug.
Thanks
Robert

Forgive my grave digging with this thread.
Does anyone know what is requited to allow the use of cards in the card reader while running linux?
I have a 64 gig sdxc card from my gopro that is formatted in exFAT. I have installed exfat-fuse. while i install the card into a usb reader and not the internal card reader i can seethe card but not mount it.

The error says "Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sdb1: Command-line `mount "/media/usb0"' exited with non-zero exit status 1:
stdout: `FUSE exfat 1.1.0
'
stderr: `fuse: mountpoint is not empty
fuse: if you are sure this is safe, use the 'nonempty' mount option
'.

Thank you

SDHC class 10 16GB works great on my X61 with the new Windows 10 loaded. Everything else seems to work well too, I don't think I'll bother with Windows 9
