Since vista sp1 was released couple days ago, I reinstalled Vista Ultimate 32bit on my tablet. Wanted to share how it was installed.

I erased the preivous post about vista sp1 64bit not working properly. I think if you install Vista and install SP1 right away, it is causes problems afterwards. At least on 64bit version, it did to me.

-Perfectly working Vista 32 with SP1-

Here's how I installed things. Different number means I rebooted.
All drivers were download from lenovo.

0. Install Vista 32bit (no automatic updates)
1. intel chipset support
1. intel gigabit lan
2. two registery patch ('usb s3 power', and 'device initiated power management')
2. intel matrix storage driver
3. lenovo system interface driver
4. intel lenovo gma x3100
5. monitor profile
6. 4965 wireless software (automatically installs drivers too)
7. thinkpad power management driver
8. tablet button driver
9. tablet shortcut menu
10. thinkpad mobility center (this is for 'windowkey' + 'x')
11. thinkpad hdd active protection
12. trackpoint driver
13. multitouch driver
14. thinkpad hotkey driver
15. turbomemory (1.5.0.1013)
16. vista sp1 (this took exactly 31minutes 18 seconds to complete)

I didn't install power manager software, fingerprint, tpm, thinkvantage access, bluetooth, or anything not in the list up there.

after vista sp1, when I go to update history, I saw 'Hotfix for Windows KB939008' which wasn't there when I installed turbomemory after sp1. In other words, I think you have to install turbomemory before sp1, so sp1 can recognize what's on your system.

after everything installed, I updated windows, it only showed 5 more to select including drivers. Here's what I have under update history now.

AnalogDevices - sound
CXT - Modem - ThinkPad Modem
Intel - Network - Intel Gigabit
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
Definition Update for Windows Defender KB915597
Howfix for Windows (KB939008)

After SP1, my Vista is running excellent. Booting into desktop feels like XP, while programs seem to load faster.

I installed SP1 (32 bit) on my X61 tablet a while back, on a clean install of Vista, though I didn't quite follow your procedure. I did in fact install SP1 immediately after Vista, then Lenovo drivers (all of them except for presentation manager), then ran Windows update. I figured that installing SP1 immediately would make it as close to a native build as you could get.

I have been using it for a month or so now and it really is SO much better than pre-SP1. That felt like a half-baked OS, this thing feels like the real thing. It is snappy and fast, and it doesn't crash (or not much, at any rate - touch wood). I think it is actually more responsive than XP, more like Windows 2000 (I mean the speed it runs on a contemporary machine, not one of yesteryear). It has restored my faith in the OS.

Incidentally, I turned the pre-fetch part of Turbo memory off, readydrive I think it is, but kept the readyboost part on (though wish it would use the full 1GB in that situation rather than sticking with the 512MB). That seemed to clear up the crashing problems when using the tablet on battery.

i am running x64sp1 on my x61t and it is running perfectly.

I did have to install the hotfix for high cpu usage off of the lenovo website though because before that i was consistently running around 60% cpu.

Couldnt be happier with my machine now.

backing up my hard drive as i write this, i have an MSDN copy of Vista with SP1 already integrated, will be using that.

update: i have to do some more testing, but for now i'm impressed. battery life time reported is higher, the computer is obviously faster after a fresh install, things just feel right.
