Hi,
Does anyone know if SP1 for Vista is already installed on X61 tablets ordered on Lenovo site since SP1 is out ?

Vista SP1 was released to laptop manufacturers before it was released to end-users, and all new laptops currently ordered ships with SP1 installed.

Although OEMs may have SP1, that doesn't mean they've deployed it on all their systems.
My X61T came a week ago and it doesn't have SP1. I believe the driver for the fingerprint reader needs to be updated before SP1 can be installed.

The new fingerprint UPEK drivers are available since 2/8/2008 as version 2.9 including tcusb.sys version 1.9.2.111 which is ok for installing Vista SP1. So there is no reason for Lenovo not to be able to ship all new x61t's with SP1, right ?

If smvp6459 ordered a new X61T that arrived last week which didn't have SP1 installed, then it looks like Lenovo isn't shipping SP1 on at least some systems at present. And currently the updated fingerprint software is not available through ThinkVantage System Update, so perhaps there's still some delay for the full roll-out in the Lenovo system.

I would try to contact a Lenovo sales rep directly and ask them if SP1 comes pre-installed on the machine you want. But even if it does not remember that only the Upek fingerprint and Intel video drivers conflict with SP1, and that these are easily updated through the respective manufacturer sites, after which SP1 will download through Windows Update. I've done the driver updates myself and currently run SP1.
SP1 has a higher likelihood of being pre-installed now as the second phase of the roll-out is underway (i.e. support for all languages/language packs, not just the original five). But I understand your concerns; it would be much more convenient to have SP1 pre-installed especially if that means the factory partition and any recovery media includes it as well.

My X61t, which just arrived last week preloaded with Vista Ultimate, did not come with SP1.

Hi guys,
I need to source some vista recovery media for my x61. I am having issues transferring the warranty (no idea why), and as the HDD has recently failed, I reinstalled Vista, plus the thinkvantage suite of software, only to find the recovery partition isn't recreated!!!
Can any of you guys help? I can cover all costs via paypal etc if need be.
Let me know?
Regards - Andy

It looks like SP1 is now "pre-installed from factory" according SQFreak in this thread

Gents,
I have already been to Lenovo (many hours on the phone to multiple countries within Europe speaking multiple versions of English), to try and resolve my issue, but for some reason it boils down to the fact that I have to get verification from Lenovo in Bratislavia, that the X61 I bought from a private seller in the States has 2 years extended warranty included (as was originally purchased)
Lenovo in the UK have now stated that the fact I have purchased it through EBAY invalidates the warranty, even though I bought i advertised with the 2 year service pack????
I asked How??? Why???? because when I bought it, it was factory sealed and had not been tampered with etc..
Thats why I am where I am, with Lenovo taking their stance and saying there in nothing they can do for me???
Any help at this point (I'm seriously thinking of finding a pretty big cliff to jump off!!!), with be welcomed with open arms!!
Kind regards - Andy

I know some ppl have garnered helpful response by posting in the Lenovo forum regarding their issues, although this is dicy because you bought it through ebay. I would think having the original documents (i.e. part numbers) with the numbers on them would be good enough to enter the data into Lenovos online warranty checking system.
Have you just thought about purchasing the warranty from Lenovo (I know obviously not the most ideal route, but this way you can still be covered)

I don't think my X61t has Vista Business SP1 on it. I'm assuming that in the System settings, under "Windows edition" it should say "Windows Vista Business SP1" or something to that effect if I did have SP1, correct?
I ran Windows Update and told it to look for new updates, but SP1 didn't come back as a result. So if I don't have SP1...it's not even available to me at this time for some reason =/.
