windows xp tablet vs windows vista

#1 Post by henryliu99 » Thu Apr 03, 2008 2:09 pm

Does windows vista have any additional benefits of windows xp tablet in terms of performance? Will it see the 4gb of ram I have?

I have an x61t with 4gb of ram (only 2.99gb recognized in winxp) and 1.8gig core 2 duo.

I like xp over vista for the tablet version. And you need vista x64 to use all 4gb.

If you have a Vista license, you can install Vista 64-bit even if you haven't got the media. Your existing license will cover it.
X61 Tablet - 1.6GHz C2D, SXGA+, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, Vista Business.

i have other laptops but i'll be honest i never use 'em

I second the motion of Windows XP tablet.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Hi, I had the same question as the orig. poster: which is better for *tablet* (inking / etc) functionality: Vista (32/64) or XP?

I will get 2 gigs of ram so I don't care about 4 gigs of ram.

I heard that Vista is better for inking (has some improvements?) and also it scales DPI up better so windows are less awkwardly sized up (font-wise), as compared to XP's DPI up-scaling.

I also heard XP Tablet edition was more of an "afterthought", so it feels more "patched" as opposed to Vista's built-in Tablet functionality?

Thanks!

I have an X60 Tablet and an X61 Tablet on the way, and I agree with everything in that post, having used both XP Tablet and Vista Business on my X60t.

Vista has much better support for tablet comparing to XP tablet.
My suggestion would be to try out both before deciding.
Now: X60s, T61, X61 Tablet
Past: R40, X41 tablet, T60

FS: $819 shipped T61 7664-16U

FS: $49 shipped Atheros a/b/g/n

This site has some suppport for why Vista is better.

Apparently, Vista learns to recognize your handwriting over time, XP doesn't. Vista has better all-around built-in support for tablets as well.
