Please Help!

#1 Post by mcmanaman » Fri Apr 04, 2008 5:19 pm

My thinkpad X61s is very slow in installing visual studio 2008, and I'm getting an error, when installing .NET Framework 3.5 and after that visual studio setup fails. Also I have harddisk activity all the time no stoping only after 10 minutes from turning on the computer.

Can someone guide me through fresh setup of Vista Business, without softwares like norton internet security and office 2007 trial.

Where can I find the drivers for my laptop (On Harddisk), also I want to know where to find all the software like all the thinkvantage programs.

Please help soon!!

Thanks in Advance...

I am not 100% sure but I seem to recall that if you had Office 2007 installed and then uninstalled it, there would be a problem of installing Office 2003 until you completely cleaned out all the Office 2007 stuff that remained on the system (even after doing an full uninstall).

In regards to clean re-installs of the OS, there are a number of excellent guides at Notebookreview. The one for Vista can be found at

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144783

The above re-install procedure requires access to a Vista installation disc (which Lenovo does not provide). If you cannot get hold of a Vista installation disc, your only alternative is to use the Base Software Administration Software:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ADMIN.html

Taken from the page above:

"The ThinkVantage Base Software Administrator (BSA) program is a versatile software utility that you can use to customize the recovery process for the Lenovo Preload. With BSA, you can customize the recovery process for computers and you can create personalization files used to automate the setup for Windows based on the Lenovo Preload."

However, please note that the BSA program does not give you a system that is as clean as if you would follow Stallen's re-installation.
