STRANGE bug ejecting from Ultrabase with external monitor

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Thu Apr 10, 2008 11:56 am

Well, what I have is a real strange bug that happened many times and is a real pain.

X61s running Vista with Ultrabase connected to External monitor (as primary display) and the X61s own 12.1" lcd used as extended desktop space.

I set the Ultrabse eject button to always Eject and than put the computer into standy-by. So when I have to leave the office/home I can just press the button and put it into my bag.

PROBLEM IS: I turned on the machine from standy when sitting in a restaurant and I could not login to Vista, the screen was black BUT I did have the mouse cursor and I could virtually move the mouse to the left side where the big main screen is usually is (when at the office). PPuff, not sure if you understand it, but the computer still think I have the external monitor connected as primaryand the X61s own screen only as extended desktop space. And since Windows LOGON only appears on the primary screen I couldn't go there to click on the password input and type in the password. Weird! I tried several times to visualize the second monitor on the left moving the mouse there, clicking button and then trying to type in the password but that didn't workout. Gee. that's though to explain, not sure anyone understood what I am saying here.

Thing is, I couldn't login to windows, I had to shut down the computer completeley (which is super bad) and reboot. It seems that the OS doesn't detect that what was the primary monitor connected to the Ultrabase is no longer there. It only detects these changes AFTER the login which is super stupid. I wonder how I can fix this trange but really anoying bug.

I have two questions:
Do you use Presentation Director?

Obviously, the external monitor is setup as your primary...would it work if you set the monitor as your secondary display? I know logon goes to primary, so if your laptop was primary, it would always go there, even after standby.
