Maybe we cannot get the best of both worlds at the moment, but we'll see
should i be worried about the "ink flow" of a x61t then ? ( i have yet to try one for > 1 minute).
your comment implies that there is still a noticeable gap between ink flow on a tablet vs in real life; sure, there must be a difference, but it seems like its enough of a difference for you to consider changing screen technology..
milstein was referring to the touch screen technology which is distinct from the Wacom pen input. The pen input is excellent and is not likely to change. The only complaint I have about the stylus input is the slight displacement of the cursor when it's very close to the edge of the screen (eg, the windows task bar). The SXGA+ model of the X61T comes with pen input only, no touchscreen.

Didn't see the "T" part, but I swear up and down that the X61's successor is the new IdeaPad U110. Almost everything the X61 has (minus the trackpoint) WITH a WXGA+ Screen.

I don't know how the ideapad series is going to take over for the X series anytime soon... many like me are tied to our old school 4x3 screens and I don't see Ideapad filling that void.
Also, yes, the SXGA is not flexview. The XGA screen is and I can say it is a very bright screen (same nits as my old X41 but about 1.5 times brighter) and can be used in sunlight! Working on the laptop next to a train window or in bright sunlit room is finally a reality.

1) U110 is part of Lenovo's consumer line.
2) U110 has a 16:10 WXGA 1366x768 screen.
3) The successors to the X6*s are Thinkpads X200 and X300, with a trackpoint and widescreens, WXGA and WXGA+ respectively.

Yes, it's understood that the X300 and X200 are the "successors" to the X61, but it seems as if it's that way only on paper. These seem more like different products aimed at competing directly with the MacBook air rather than as an upgrade to the X61.
The U110 has almost every feature that the X61 has, with a higher resolution screen. Also, while the processor in the U110 isn't as fast, it's faster than the ones currently offered in the X300. The X6 has longer battery life, but not at the expense of processor power, correct me if I'm wrong.
Certainly, if someone bought the X300, they're buying it because of its weight, not because of its sheer power. Then again, a similar argument could be made for the U110, because it's a "consumer" model. I'm not comparing the U110 with it's "counterparts". It's almost as if they're not even in the same league. Lenovo didn't even give the 110 the same model name designation for the other products in that "line".
You have the Y710, Y510, then the
U110.

Anyone other than me have gripes with the Ideapad's glossy keyboards ala Sony Vaio?
I'll take my dull Thinkpad black over Paris Hilton gloss anyday.

everything i've read states that it's 1280x800.
btw, 1366x768 is 16:9, not 16:10.

I got the resolution from
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4182. May be wrong.
My bad about aspect ratios.

it's definitely possible.
this site has decent pics of the U110 and it does look like a 16:9 panel, lending more toward the notion of it being 1366x768.
update: page four of that link says that it is indeed 1366x768.

I guess the next X series tablets will have resolutions less than SXGA+ or is there hope that lenovo will maintain that.

I would hope that it is maintained, in addition, making it available with a better multi-touch capable screen as well.
I am really enjoying my SXGA+ now, and think I would enjoy having multi touch too!

yea, i got the multitouch, and oftentimes wish i had the higher resolution, i do use the touch, just dont think i get as much use out of it as i would the extra real estate

And who's willing to bet against me if I say that by next generation IPS LCDs will be gone from tablets?

ironically we reverse roles in our stance on lenovo. how will lenovo uphold their thinkpad's quality if they offer a worse screen?
EDIT: wow the thread i randomly started a month ago has 2000+ views. there are alot of lurkers on this forum... !!!

I never said "worse". My assumption is that new tablets will be LED lit like X300, and likely widescreen.

tech question: is LED lighting brighter? offers better viewing angles? I dont refer to the actual display quality, just the brightness / viewing angles..

LEDs are more efficient at converting electricity into visible light. Replacing ccfl by lcds, you could either save power and keep brightness or increase brightness with constant battery drain.
Disadvantages: comparably new tech, might have unforeseen issues that show up down the road. Like this:

Hmmm...brighter, judging by my brief encounter with X300, definitely. Viewing angles, that's tough. I'd have to run it side-by-side with one of my FlexViews, and I haven't had a chance to do so. And even then, I'd be comparing angles on widescreen vs. standard screen...and that's apples and oranges IMHO.
