X60 compatibility with OCZ PC2 6400 2x2GB kit.

Hi,
I just bought 4gb of memory (ocz2m8004gk, PC2 6400, 2x2GB non-ECC kit retail) for my X60 (1709-47U, Core Duo). The computer won't start at all. It gives 1 short beep, pause, then 4 short beeps, pause, then 2 more short beeps. It doesn't match the beep symptoms listed on the Lenovo website so I called tech support, who told me the code indicates a memory problem but nothing further can be said without me giving them the laptop.
My questions:
1) How do I find out if the new memory is good or bad?
2) Has anyone used this particular OCZ kit on an X6x with success?
3) I assume I can buy PC2-6400 and it will simply run at the lower 5300 speed. Is it not true?
4) Any other suggestions? Recommendations of good 4GB kit that's known to work?
Thanks!
UPDATE: It works!
I can not explain what happened. Here's what I tried after posting this message:
- Unplug everything.
- Put 2GB memory 1 only in left socket. Beeps 1-4-2.
- Put 2GB memory 1 only in right socket. Beeps 1-3-3-1.
- Put 2GB memory 2 only in left socket. Beeps 1-4-3-3.
- Put 2GB memory 2 only in right socket. WORKS!
- Put 2GB memory 1 only in right socket again. WORKS!
- Put both in. BOTH WORK!!!
This makes zero sense to me. I've installed memory numerous times and I'm very sure I installed the modules securely every time. Anyway, now I'm happy
