I just noticed that my battery is making a high pitch sound when the computer is running at maximum perfomance, on battery power of course :)

it's not one long whining, but it's kinda chopped up. And it's also quite "loud" compared to how much noice the rest of the machine is making.

Do you guys recommend that I call customer service and ask for a replacement?
The machine is 4 months old.

Regards

Well, I just called customer support.
They will send a new one, and if they are as fast as normal I will have new one tommorrow :)

A shame that you can't get them to send a bigger one that the "Slim-Line" battery tha machine came with. :D

I did get the battery the very next day.

But the new one also makes the noise.
Do any of you x61s owners also experience this?

Are you sure it's the battery that's making the noise?

High pitched noise on battery power has been reported here before. Seems to stem from a design flaw of the Core 2 Duo architecture, or bad capacitors/inductors, depending on who you listen to.

Bottom line is to first try changing your settings for battery power in ThinkVantage Power Manager and in the BIOS per threads above, and if that fails you can send the machine in for a motherboard fix.
