I have a X61 with the Verizion Sierra Wireless MC5725 broadband card. All indications from Sierra's website say it supports some form of GPS, in device manager I show COM6 "Sierra Wireless MC5725 NEMA Device" and NEMA is the GPS std. Is there some way to enable use? I can't get any communication of any sort over COM6

If Verizon's posture re: GPS functionality on the MC5725 is the same as their posture for GPS functionality on the Blackberry 8830, then only Verizon's GPS/navigation software ($10/month) can use the feature, even though the hardware has it; GPS is disabled for any/all other applications.

Repeat: I don't know if such is the case for the MC5725, but it would not be a surprise if that were the case.

Try to install GPS Enabler from Lenovo. It's meant for X300, which contains MC5725 (FRU 42T0929), but with slight hint [see PM] it will install on your machine.

I tried installing the GPS Enabler using the hint, and it does install but when I go to run it it says: "GPS Antenna is not detected. Make sure the antenna is equipped and working correctly." I say ok then it acts like it tries to find satelites but will never find them.

I have this card in my T61p, and I noticed NMEA on COM7, I have Delorme installed on this particular laptop and attempted to change the GPS port to COM7 to see if I could get any readings. I was able to get several readings but never a satellite lock (this was done indoors with the laptop docked). I am under the impression that this card does have a GPS reciever built in, even though I have never seen Lenovo documentation claiming that it does. I will test more later this week. Anyone else succesful?

Did anyone ever get this to work? Looks like my new X61 has one of these in it...
