What is the best way to utilize a DVD drive with an X61?
Online in purchasing a unit they have a docking station and then a DVD with cost over $300 total.

Most people buy the docking station (ultrabase) because they connect a wide assortment of peripherals into it, including monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Under this usage profile getting the disc drive along with ultrabase is sensible. If you simply need a disc drive, however, try getting a USB DVD-ROM or DVD-RW, which is significantly less expensive then the ultrabase with drive. These are readily available online or at brick-and-mortar electronics stores.
