There are three potential issues with retrofitting LCD panels from machines they weren't originally designed for;
1/ electrical -- sometimes the cable connectors/signals can be different
2/ port placement -- sometimes the video port on the LCD panel is in a different spot, that doesn't line up with the flex-cable in the laptop
3/ mounting issues -- the screw-holes for mounting the LCD securely in the bezel may not line up

same thing happened to me.
I bought a thinpad FRU off ebay. i reccomend the same thing, and be sure its compat before you do ANYTHING. not even the X4* is compat with the X6*
when you are replacing it, 1. be sure your wireless wires dont get caught between the lid, they are fragile and may get cut like that, and make sure the cradle for the monitor ribbon fits right.
(my two biggest issues...but you want to be careful with everything else too)

...might be unusual or so but reading of your problem reminds me of having an lcd from an x60s lying right next to me!
you are welcome to contact me!
