Loose battery *slider?* (Not same old loose battery thing)
Loose battery *slider?* (Not same old loose battery thing)
(...well, my battery itself is a little loose too but I know that has been well-established as just the way it is. On a lot of models anyway.)
I just got a 'regular' X61, not sure if everything about its battery area is the same as on all flavors. But anyway, is the slider that locks in the battery very loose and wobbly on anyone else's? I was surprised by it as soon as I put the battery into the new machine two weeks ago. It seems like it's only secured in the center of the slider -- either end lifts pretty freely. If I touch one end the other teeters up. If I tap an end it's all rattle rattle rattle. (The wifi radio switch is a little like this too, but not nearly as much, and not concerned about that one really since it's smaller and in a more out-of-the-way spot.)
I'm only worried that it might not last long if it's like this already, that it could be prone to catching on things or fall off from normal use. I've never had a slider with play in it like this, am used to them making firm contact with the track all around. But I've never had a Thinkpad before either. (Isn't like that on our lower-end Lenovo 3000 tho...) I did see an account of someone's getting 'sheared off,' but the poster didn't say where he felt the fault was.
All things considered, I'd be glad to hear that they're all this way (and it hasn't lead to problems)! I sure wouldn't want to send it in if that's the case, but I'm also sure they'd tell me to even if it is. Thanks for any weigh-ins!

...awww, is it really just mine, everyone else's sliders are firm all around??
Then how about, could a few people post that theirs ISN'T loose, especially if you have an X61? Then I could be more sure whether mine has a problem, as opposed to this just being one of those threads that ends up ignored. Y'all know how much no one would want to send in their machine if there was actually no reason to (and have it come back unchanged, except for a few dents or chips around the slider maybe!). Would be much appreciated...

Ninety-four readers to date and not a one willing to go so far as to tap a certain piece of plastic and post four words ("Mine is like that" or "Mine isn't like that"). Not a very inspiring message.

Thanks very much adrianaitken, that's good and bad to hear! Good for you, bad for me lol. Wow, somehow I did think it would turn out to be a model-wide 'idiosyncracy.'
But I do want to face up to whatever the music is and get it over with. Anyone else, to help break the tie?
