Hi all!
Already many people tried this, but.....
I got a new big drive Fujitsu MHZ2320BH G2( 320GB/5400RPM 2.5"9.5mmH) here in Japan(Akihabara) ,with reasonable price $120.
So I upgraded my X60T(SXGA+) ,replaced old Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00(160GB) with new FUJITSU MHZ2320BH G2(320GB).
At the same time , replaced old 2GB RAM(1GB X 2) with 4GB(2GB X 2),but actually 3GB because of WInXP restriction as you know.
Bench mark test shows
--------------------------------------------------
CrystalDiskMark 2.1
--------------------------------------------------
[Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00]
Sequential Read : 39.184 MB/s
Sequential Write : 38.598 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 22.973 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 22.629 MB/s
Random Read 4KB : 0.412 MB/s
Random Write 4KB : 0.938 MB/s

[FUJITSU MHZ2320BH G2]
Sequential Read : 58.149 MB/s
Sequential Write : 56.337 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 29.141 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 32.264 MB/s
Random Read 4KB : 0.465 MB/s
Random Write 4KB : 1.552 MB/s

New 320GB performance(160GB platter) is much better than old one.
Overall, WindowXP start-up time has been improved 30%~40% in my rough measurment.
Very quite(indeed!)and low power consumption(not measured yet)
Big drive(Higher density platter type) is worth to have!
Anyone tried by Hitachi or WD?
Please show us your benchmark!

You mind testing the same with the original RAM and see how much of a difference ONLY the HDD really made.

Thank you for comment.

I checked again the hard disk performance and start-up time difference of WinXP between old 160GB and new 320GB in the same RAM condition (old 2GB).
I got a same improvement result (320GB harddrive improved read performance and faster start-up time of WinXP than old 160GB as I described previously).
