Anyway to reinstall Vista without any use of Cd-Drive?

Hi
I was wondering is there any way to do a clean install of Vista without using cd-drive at all? (I really don't want to spend more money for an external cd drive)
I've been searching the forums and it is possible to boot from USB drive but some of the guides say that I need to make recovery disk or something before I actually start the process. But then to make the recovery disk, I would need a cd-drive..maybe there is no way
does anyone have a link? maybe I missed a thread or some sort..
