X61 Tablet Bezel Issues Resolved..?

#1 Post by carsncars » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:24 am

Hi Everyone,

I hope I'm not beating this topic to death, but I'm really hoping to order an X61T before the weekend is over. It's basically my "perfect" laptop, but all this talk of the bezel separation issues and corner crumbling/cracking issues have me concerned.

I know that Lenovo has stated that 1.) they have revised the bezel to with, er, thicker tape, and 2.) that the crumbling corners are limited to a small batch of bezels produced. However, from online discussions, I can't quite get a clear picture of whether these problems are truly resolved yet.

To put it simply: if I were to order an X61T tonight, what is the likelihood that these problems will manifest through heavy (university) use? Does anyone have a recently purchased X61T that has/doesn't have these problems, or have a repaired, older X61T that has/doesn't have these problems?

Any input is much obliged.

Also, I've configured my X61T at about CAD$1600 after coupons. I figure my likelihood of getting the soon-to-be X200 tablet for around that price is pretty slim, eh?

The bezel thing doesn't happen anymore. I looked briefly into the issue in March this year when buying mine, and the conclusion seemed to be that Lenovo actually did fix the problem. My tablet shows no signs of disintegration after two months of use.

How would you check to see if your machine has that issue or not?

You would notice a clear separation, for the record new tablets don't have this issue anymore, if you bought the tablet sometime last year in 2007 then put your OS under great load of CPU intensive applications for a few hours then rotate the lid to go into the tablet mode, there you should notice it easily if it exists.

Another way to determine it is to look at the date of manufacturing from the bottom of the machine, if it's manufactured in 2008 then chances of having your machine suffering from this issue are very slim.
