x60s motherboard question

#1 Post by efrant » Wed Jun 18, 2008 12:51 pm

I think this has been asked before, but I coudn't seem to find the thread: Is there any way of finding out if an x60s system board has one or two mini PCIe slots in x60s that didn't come with a pre-installed WWAN card, without opening it up?

The reason I ask is that I wanted to add a WWAN card to my x60s, but it doesn't have the second slot, and am thinking of buying another x60s (with 2 slots) and replace it with mine. (My x60s has the Ultralight screen, which I would like to keep!)

Another quick question: are the system boards the same in the x60 and x60s models (aside from one having the low-voltage processor, of course)?

Thanks in advance.

One can remove the DIMM door, determine the motherboard's FRU# on the sticker visible through that opening, and then check the "features" of the motherboard with that FRU#.

Yes, the X60 and X60s motherboards are the same except for the processors. However, know that the processors are soldered, not socketed, so for all intents and purposes the processor becomes the single determining feature of the board (other than 1 or 2 Mini-PCI Express sockets).

Thanks.

I don't suppose there is a way to add another mini PCIe socket to a board that only has one?

The short answer is "No".
