Hard Drive Upgrade
Hard Drive Upgrade
I got a Toshiba MK1234SXG 120GB SATA drive. Is it worthy to replace original Hitachi 5K100 40GB SATA drive with Toshiba one?
Thank you.

No. Here is the expanded explanation:gzz wrote:You mean the Toshiba one has lower speed than Hitachi one, right?
Since both drives spin at 5400RPM, there will be no discernable difference in speed between them. The higher capacity drive will have lower latency due to higher areal density, hence it will be marginally faster, but the difference will not be noticeable. Consequently, the only effective difference is the capacity -- which may or may not matter to you, depending on how close you are to the capacity limit of your existing drive.
