x60-Using the ibm powermanager - speedstep in SP2 disbabled!

@all,

to me it seems to make absolutely no sense / difference whatsoever, apart from user friendliness, using the ibm powermanager vs the built in xp power options on my x60.

havin tested various NLITED xp professional versions, pre-cooked , from orig preinstallation i386 or from "pure" xp prof installation, aiming at slimming it down to the max and speeding it up as far as possible,
it seems that the ibm powermanager doesnt aid in keeping the machine run cooler / less power hungry in comparison to the xp powermanagement:!: - or am i mislead here

honestly havent tested it running on battery yet, but on AC it sure doesnt make a diff!- in addition its one service less again!

my findings over past few days:

EIST / speedstep is disabled per default in xp sp2 ( how about sp3?) and can be activated chosing ninimal power management, which results in a speed drop (like documented) in "system tab" to 947 from orig. 1,83 in my t2400!
this can be measured in xp system monitor quite nicely.

now i am wondering:
- does this apply to sp3 as well?
- after resume from hibernation, system tab does NOT show the above documented change in frequency!!!! why?- EIST not working?
- can someone check what happens when working with ibm powermanager? / system tab frequency?
- any other way of making sure / checking on functioning EIST with minimal second party konfig?( i.e. xp own -stuff)

AFAIK, "disabled by default" simply means the default Power Scheme "Always On" does not enable EIST nor Speedstep.

Choosing other profiles, such as "Portable/Laptop", will then enable it.

And installing Power Manager and choosing the appropriate profile and/or parameters should do the same.

Speaking of which... I just found out that the CPU hardly throttle on the X61T with Vista... The core voltage does step down to below 1V but the frequency hardly throttle back even when there's little CPU usage.

Googled a bit and haven't found a solution yet.

Edit: Oddly enough... The box seems to throttle (change multiplier from 8x to 6x more often after returning from Standby... Strange... : )
