Access Connections always asks for Ethernet card

I recently got an X61 downgraded to XP, which I love for its small weight, portability and power. I use it mostly docked and it's great.

The first time I booted the machine, I got a prompt from AC indicating it had found an Ethernet card and asking what to do with it. So I created a profile for "work" (which is where I will use this wired card) and added the card to it. I see the AC tray icon and it indicates this profile as active (and the card works flawlessly).

Now, every time I boot I get the exact same prompt for the exact same card. Sometimes this prompt comes up even before I have entered my login credentials. When the prompt comes up (either before or after logging in), it does not have available the "work" profile I already created, only two choices: "(Choose profile)" and "(Create profile)".

Is this normal behavior? How can I stop it from happening? Why won't it recognize the card I already entered into a profile? Mind you, it IS the same card every time. Device Manager, while docked, only shows three cards: "1394 Net Adapter", "Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG" and "Intel(R) 82566M Gigabit Network Connection", and it is this last one that is repeatedly detected.

Maybe I just don't understand how AC is supposed to work; if that is the case, I would appreciate being educated.

Thanks for any hints and best regards.

Access Connections is quite buggy. I would remove it and use Windows to manage your connections.

Only for some people. It works everywhere I have tried it, but not everyone is as fortunate. ... JDH

It is not normal behaviour. Make sure the profile was established in a user ID with administrative priveleges. If that doesn't work, remove the profile in the userid where you created it, and then create a new profile in the userid you use, and see if that works.

I tried removing the profiles and recreating them under my own user id (which has administrative privileges), no change.

Then I completely uninstalled Access Connections (deleting all profiles), rebooted, reinstalled (with the latest version downloaded from Lenovo's web site, 4.52) and recreated the profile. Still no change, every once in a while I get that annoying window asking me to add the Ethernet adapter to an existing profile or to create one (but the already created profile is nowhere to be seen). D@mn it all.

I think I will just uninstall this thing. Thanks for the tips anyway.
