X60 Tablet - annoyances

I have an X60 Tablet

I do like using my laptop but here are the things that let it down in my eyes.

1. Refresh rate is stuck at constantly at 50hz for 1024 x 768 - It looks blurred. 1400 x 1050 looks sharp but it hurts my eyes eventually

2. Whenever I add / remove an external monitor the graphics card always sets the colour to 16bit and it looks rubbish. This really annoys me.

Overall, I hate the Intel Graphics Card, its a shame there are not many Intel / ATI combos any more.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, as its been bugging me for a while whilst tuning into this forum, which is a great source of info for thinkpads.

Installed Vista

After Installing Vista alongside XP, the expanded fonts in Vista dont destroy the windows GUI half as much, combined with FireFox 3 makes for a better experience all round!

Shame it rinses the battery and uses a LOT more memory than XP did. Maybe ill turn Aero off when Im bored with it.

No LCD will look good at anything besides its native resolution. The SXGA+ screen's native resolution is 1400 x 1050. The DPI adjustments in Vista can help in this regard.

This is part of why I have resisted switching my desktop's monitors to LCDs...but actually the truth is that I'm just cheap.

As regarding Vista, the high memory usage isn't Aero but Superfetch. Superfetch adjusts its memory usage patterns based on how you use your computer and how much memory you have, so it does use a lot of memory, but that memory is also freed up fairly quickly when another application demands it. In other words, you can't use the same metric to measure memory usage in Vista as you do in XP. If it worries you a lot, you can turn Superfetch off, but it'll probably slow your system down even more. I'd just recommend getting more RAM; it's very cheap right now and it may get more expensive as manufacturing capacity moves to DDR3.

Thanks for the information!

I have 3GB of RAM and no performance issues, just shocked to see 1.2 GB of memory used, just not used to it!

My twisted logic says more memory used, less battery time, but again have an 8 cell so its not that much of an issue using sleep for the laptop as well

Thanks
