X61 vs. X61s vs. X61T battery life...

I'm wondering what the battery life differences are for similarly spec'ed systems (Except for processor on X61 obviously) for the X61, X61s, and X61t (all else held equal). I'm trying to decide if the slower speed of the X61s is worth the increased battery life, if the faster X61 is worth the decreased battery life, and lastly if the added features of the tablet negatively effect battery life like they do on my X41t

Tablet will always have the least amount of battery life. FlexViews are hungry.

Coming from someone who has owned a high three-digit number of ThinkPads, consider the following: X61s (with "lightweight" LCD) has given me the best battery life I've ever experienced from a IBM/Lenovo unit.

I've gotten about 7.5 hours with slightly dimmed LCD and wireless on. And that was in 32-bit Vista. You'll get more if you choose XP.

That was my experience as well though I got about six and a half with the screen set to half, WiFi on doing normal stuff.

High three digits? I'm on my fifth in a row, but I got to confess in some ways I'm kind of bored with them. My next one may not be a ThinkPad. We'll see what the new ones bring.

on the tablet? wow nice. I just got a new (aftermarket) 8cell for my X41 tablet and I get 4hrs max doing normal stuff, with brightness way down and wifi on in XP...disappointing to say the least

Not on the tablet, on X61s with a lightweight LCD...

The best I've ever gotten on my X60 tablet was 3.5 hours running Linux at full brightness and wireless on...so it would probably be like 4.5-5 hours in XP with lower brightness. This was with extended batery that OS reported as being in "excellent condition".

Never tested it, but I'd definitely used it for at least five under the former conditions. This was with a clean install. I did a factory restore and now it predicts around five and a half. I have never tested this.

For the first couple of months with my X61T I was getting 7 hrs consistently with wireless off and screen brightness down when I was inking on class notes

If you have a position and/or lifestyle that requires you be wireless and mobile, I would definitely suggest x61s. That said, I'm buying an x60s in part because the (reported) extra battery life is extremely important to me, and LV core duos are already silly fast for this professional.

I do not think you should consider a non-s series unless tablet functionality is important because your 14" T6 is already a wonderful machine and I think the battery life of the x6 series is what will make you love your new laptop. I also think the ultralight screen is almost a necessity because lowering screen brightness is the easiest and most effective way to lower w/h, and even at 20% brightness the ultralight LCD remains readable indoors. I also find it very readable and usable at 100% brightness outdoors and, like you, live in a sunny place.
