Will this be much of a downgrade??

I currently have the T61 in my signature. However, I'm thinking of selling it in favor of an X61/X61s/X61T (haven't decided yet). I'm wondering how much of a downgrade I will notice going from the T61 to an X61s/T with the LV7500 1.66ghz? Is the ~800mhz difference going to be very noticeable, or is the 1.66ghz low voltage processor really more compareable to a faster "regular" C2D processor? I don't often run processor-intensive applications. I mostly use my computer for internet browsing, emails, MS office applications, photo editing, etc. No games or anything like that. I'd get the X61 with a 7.2k rpm HDD. I absolutely LOVE the speed of my new T61. Much faster than my older T61 2.0ghz Core Duo with 5400rpm drive (could be due to the faster HDD than the faster processor though).

so, what do you all think?

THANKS!

LV7500 is plenty fast for the applications you mention, except (potentially) for photo editing, depending in the "intensity" of what you are doing. I suspect that even there, for what you are likely to do, you will not notice a "downgrade" in speed.

For all the other applications you mentioned, you will not see any differences in speed (given that you are not doing massive Fourier transforms in Excel!)

The hard drive when doing non CPU intensive type stuff like browsing and word is often what makes it seem faster more so than the CPU. If you're getting a 7,200RPM drive I doubt you'll notice much of a difference.

I think with the hard drive your thinking of getting and 3Gb (or 4 with Vista 64) you shouldn't see much difference if any. Especially if you are not doing anything too intensive.

if u are running vista u can try to slow down the processor in your t61 to something near 1.66 ghz in the mobility control center. I don't know if this is a good comparision or not but it will give u a taste of what going to a 1.6 ghz machine is like. If u are doing photoshop and stuff i don't suggest downgrading cause photoshop is very processor intensive app.
