Installing a new keyboard = warranty void?

Hello,

I am about to buy a X60s with an English keyboard layout and I probably want to swap that for a German one.

I read a couple of times by now, that its not difficult to install a new keyboard. Now my questions are:

- How difficult is it really, is there a guide somewhere?

- Do I loose my warranty when I do this?

- Ive read, that there are 3 different manufacturers, amongst them Chicony. What are the characteristics of the different keyboard versions and what are their GERMAN FRU numbers / where can I look them up?

Thank you very much for you time,
Martin

-There is a keyboard-changing guide somewhere on Lenovo's support pages.

-I do not know. However, if you swap back your original keyboard, before sending it to service you should not have any problems.

-The different keyboards have different feel about them. Different people seem to have different preferences in regards to this. If you search this forum, you will find some posts about the keyboards.

Keyboards are a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), so replacing it should not affect the warranty.

How to do it? Watch the movie!

Thank you very much, guys!

Different question: What happens, when I change the Lenovo ThinkPad Logo back to the IBM Logo with one bought on eBay. They shouldnt care about it, should they?

I can't imagine why they would.

when you need warranty service, you can just switch back to original one

Hey, and just another question.

When did Lenovo change the boot screens to their logo? Did it happen simultaneously with the change of the thinkpad logo? Or as soon, when they took the company over?

When do I have to expect a Lenovo branded boot up screen on a X60S?

Have a nice weekend, everyone.

It's mix and match...my pre-production X60T had IBM logos on the palmrest and lid, while having Lenovo's boot logo.

Generally, I haven't seen a post-T43 unit with an IBM boot logo, not to say these don't exist.

This might not apply to other places in the world, but I have a R51 and an X61 that I swapped out the original Thai keyboards for English keyboards. When the R51's English keyboard broke (the trackpoint fell off) I forgot that it wasn't the original keyboard and sent it in for repairs, IBM actually replaced the English keyboard with another Thai keyboard. The X61 was in for repairs and IBM also fixed it without saying anything about the keyboard.
