Lateset BIOS update screws the FAN

#1 Post by nikemen » Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:55 am

So, from reading another blog, I noticed there was a new BIOS update for the X61t. So, I updated.

Well, now my FAN goes on at 39C, whereas everything was pretty darn quite for up to about 48-50, but if it got bad I would turn on FanControl. But NOW, thanks to this latest BIOS update I get pretty much FAN all the time - ala most of the thinkpads I have owned!

Anyone else showing this, any solutions? Is there a way to DOWNGRADE to a previous BIOS?

My fan ran more or less constantly from when I got it. I had to install tpfancontrol to keep from going insane.

I don't know anywhere to get previous BIOS versions (although admittedly I haven't looked), but I do remember whenever doing a BIOS upgrade that the process entails one step where the old BIOS is backed up. Perhaps with some Googling or calls to tech support you could figure out a way to revert to this backup. If you find a way you should post it; the procedure might prove useful someday.
