Hello,

sorry for posting this in a separate topic, but since this question is quite a bit off my last topic and I really would need an answer during the next 12 hours, I hope you guys will apologize this.

What shows up on my computer when I hit the power button is quite important to me. I am a big IBM fan, but I am going to buy an all Lenovo X60s, so probably the boot screen will show the Lenovo logo.

Does it touch my warranty in any case, when I change this screen by the guide posted on thinkwiki.org? I mean, of course, when this particular action screws up my bios or whatsoever, they wont care. But will my warranty be generally be void, when I change the boot screen?

Sorry again for the inconvenience, I just got to buy this laptop during the next 12 hours...

You won't void your warranty but:

playing with BIOS may destroy your motherboard and void your warranty that way. They do test the fried boards to see what got them to fry, and BIOS hacks are a big "no-no"...

I am as big of an IBM fan as you'll find, and have never owned anything but a ThinkPad, but my friendly advice would be NOT to go that route.

I mean, its not a "bios hack", as you call it. Its rather kind of an personal update.

So on the one hand side, you say, changing the boot screen (which has to be done with the BIOS, as for as I know) wont void the warranty. On the other hand you say, modificating the BIOS is a big no-no (so I guess voiding my warranty).

If your board fails due to a BIOS hack, you're out of luck.

Performing a BIOS hack without consequences will not void anything.
